Our light to heavy duty commercial fountains are called our Stratovator fountains. The below information will explain what stratification is and the importance of "de-stratifying" large ponds and lakes. To calculate the size of Stratovator you need, click here. They are all custom ordered to your specifications with various lengths of electric cord, optional lights, optional electric cord length for lights, and various HP size. Most people use the mini or midi while those in parks and recreation may use the large, commercial "maxi" unit. They may require approx. 1-3 weeks for shipping.

The Problem...

As the hot summer months approach, so does the battle of water management. Problems such as algae, unpleasant odors, excessive weed growth, sludge and poor water clarity are a common condition of warm lakes and ponds. Some methods of water management include: dredging of ponds mechanically, treating water with chemicals or dyes; or using weed-eating fish. These methods treat only the symptoms and can be costly, ineffective, and damaging to the environment.

The Cause...
During the summer season, warm surface water traps denser, colder water on the bottom of the pond. This is known as stratification. Pollutants such as leaves, clippings and fertilizer sink to the bottom and decay, stripping the water of dissolved oxygen. Anaerobic bacteria, which require no oxygen, can thrive in this environment. These bacteria can cause poisonous gases such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and methane to be released. As these gases rise through the water, any remaining oxygen is absorbed causing unpleasant odors, rapid algae growth, and a very unhealthy environment for fish.

The Solution...
The Stratovator takes the deeper, colder water from 36-40" below the surface and forces it into the air through an elegant fountain spray pattern enabling the droplets to capture atmospheric oxygen. This process is called de-stratification or aeration. The oxygen is then released back into the water as the droplets strike the surface. The aerated, cooler water is layered on top of the existing warmer layer, breaking down and eliminating the idle stratification of oxygen-starved water. De-stratification aides the natural process of biodegrading algae resulting in cleaner, clearer water. The Stratovator effectively reaches the source of the problem and solves it naturally and beautifully.
